We are proud to announce that a week after our first Vinyl Vlog Episode back we have yet ANOTHER one posted. We plan to keep up the pace in the next couple of weeks. How long will this last? No one knows!
So a few weeks ago we sat down with Chris Wrenn from Bridge Nine Records. Shortly after we got Neil from Anchorless Records to cohost an episode for us.
The following episode is both of those recording sessions spliced together!
So back in December we had the chance to catch up with the guys from Pelican during a show at Harpers Ferry in the great Allston Rock City. Laurent was able to set us up with the vinyl lover in the band, Larry Herweg, who shares responsibilities within the rhythm section with his brother Bryan on bass. It was a pain finding a good place to sit and turn the camera on, so we decided, in the middle of December, to go outside the venue and have Davey hold the camera. Davey, being the charming asshole you will come to meet in the Black Cobra interview, didn’t turn the mic on. So after trying to transcribe it for the last few months, I figured I’d give you the skinny on what these guys have been up to.
If you hadn’t learned, the guys made the switch from Hydra Head over to Southern Lord, to share space with the likes of Boris, Earth, Weedeater, and Black Cobra. Since the move, they have had 2 releases, Ephemeral and What We All Come To Need, which is now after being released on CD is finally going to see the light of wax, one of which being an exclusive to the Southern Lord Vinyl Subscription Series for 2010. This release will be limited to 550, and include 3 songs that were not released earlier in October. After hearing Ephemeral, it sounds like a much darker step into their former material, like a mature Mammoth, if you will.
The guys take a lot of pride in the packaging and design that comes with the territory of releasing their work on vinyl. It was a great pleasure to meet the guys and watch the concert after, where they killed it. Hanging with Rafa next door playing buck hunter was most certainly a great close to the year for me. The guys in Black Cobra slay, and if you haven’t had the chance to hear the new record, Chronomega, you are doing yourself a disservice. This two piece, formerly of Boston and now from L.A. have been around for a while now, with this being their fourth release, and what I would say is the perfect release to follow up Feather and Stone.
Again, we apologize greatly to Larry for what I feel like was a complete waste of his insight on upcoming news. and a poor first interview on my part.
IN GOOD NEWS THOUGH we did remember to turn on the microphone for our second interview of the night with Black Cobra. The following is Episode Eight of our Second season.
Let’s start with the most important news of the day: PunkNews.org, Paper and Plastic and a slew of other labels/bands have teamed up to help out with Haiti Relief. They are going to list a large collection of donated records and unique collector items up for auction at www.limitedpressing.com starting Monday January 17th 2010.
In other Limited Pressing news, if you view our navigation options on our site you will now see a STORE link! This is brought to you by Tom and Nick of LP. We owe them HUGE as we can now offer our viewers an opportunity to purchase T-shirts and koozies and support what we do here.
In final new vv.com post worthy material we have a new episode available to view! This is EPISODE 7 of Season 2 with Mike Hale and Austin Lucas + Maps and Atlas review. Can you believe it in a little over a year we have almost 20 episodes completed! We’d love to hear your thoughts on this new episode so please leave a comment.
